Liberty is the freedom to be able to choose independently. We are already alive and so to get a life we must live and live to the fullest for that matter. We should ask ourselves what we are responsible for in respect to these three Rights. In these Rights then comes a feature of responsibility. The filmmakers extend their sincere thanks for their contributions. The expression, "life, liberty and pursuit of happiness" is found in the assertion of Independence which says "we hold these truths to be undeniable, that all men are made equivalent, that they are blessed by their inventor with certain questionable Rights that around these are Liberty, Pursuit of Happiness and Life." (Thomas, 2005) These words are not only very powerful words but also help in the establishment of any platform upon which all democratic societies can be built not only that of the United States. We hope to reach a new audience and reinvigorate past supporters to continue to fight for this right. We use humor and irony to open people up to this critical subject and enlist them in the important effort that lies ahead. Our goal with this film was to approach this intense, polarized subject in a new way. Wade and I know that our grandmothers and mothers fought hard to give us this right to make personal decisions about our bodies. This film is my response to our current administration’s policies. I originally wrote the proposal to make this film for Planned Parenthood Golden Gate after my increasing concern and frustration of the erosion of reproductive rights in our country. I have been making films since 1991 but this is my first activist endeavor. It aims to galvanize both the generation who have benefited from nearly 30 years of freedom and those who remember what it was like when it was criminal and dangerous for a woman to exercise control over her own body. Life, Liberty & The Pursuit of Happiness is a short film to highlight the rapidly evolving threat to a women’s right to choice.
